Five new coronavirus outbreaks reported for Cortez

Montezuma County has reported five new active COVID-19 outbreaks, bringing its total active cases to 23, according to the Colorado Department of Health and Environment.

The county has had a total of 24 outbreaks. One has been resolved and is off the active list.

CDPHE defines an “outbreak” of COVID-19 as two or more people who contract the virus in a single location within 14 days.

The dates illnesses were determined to be an outbreak and locations are:

Jan. 4, City Market No. 408 in Cortez: Two staff have tested positive.Jan. 4, Hampton Inn Mesa Verde in Cortez: Two staff have tested positive.Jan. 4, Taylor Plumbing and Heating in Cortez: Two staff have tested positive.Dec. 22, Souder, Miller & Associates in Cortez: Three staff have tested positive.Dec. 20, Garcia & Co. Jewelers in Cortez: Two staff have tested positive.As of Jan. 4, Montezuma County reported a total of 1,292 positive cases of COVID-19, up from 1,191 cases on Dec. 28, an 8% increase. There are currently 813 active cases. Eleven deaths have been attributed to COVID-19,
