Kokanee salmon giveaway attracts 100

Colorado Parks and Wildlife gave away 1,500 kokanee salmon Thursday in Dolores. There was so much demand that fish biologists went and got more from a nearby fish hatchery. The salmon spend three or four years in McPhee Reservoir then swim up the Dolores River in the fall to spawn.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials gave away about 1,500 kokanee salmon at Joe Rowell Park on Thursday, and plan another giveaway on Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. Oct. 26. To be eligible for the giveaway, you must have a 2017 fishing license.
