Hanson Tsosie, 33, of Farmington, was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday on charges including first-degree murder after being arrested Oct. 30 and booked in the San Juan County Detention Center, according to law enforcement officials.

The charges stem from a Sept. 5, 2021 incident, in which he allegedly killed a woman by shooting her, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.

He also faces two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury, two counts of using and carrying a firearm to commit a crime of violence and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office offered few details, but stated that Tsosie also was accused of shooting another woman and a man. The woman reportedly suffered a “serious bodily injury,” according to court records.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office states that “Tsosie was previously convicted of battery against a household member,” which resulted in a felony conviction. “Tsosie cannot legally possess firearms or ammunition.”

The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case with the assistance of the Navajo Police Department.

If convicted of the crimes, Tsosie faces life in prison.
