FARMINGTON – One of the top prep baseball players in the state of Colorado the past two seasons, Evan LaMunyon is making his presence known these days in San Juan County.

Now in his second season with the Frackers as part of the Connie Mack city league season, LaMunyon has been an integral part of the offense. In the team’s most recent victory Wednesday over the Shiprock Dodgers, LaMunyon drove in a pair of runs with a double.

In a regional tournament last week in Albuquerque, LaMunyon also came up big at the plate, driving in seven runs over the course of five games as the Frackers advanced to the tournament championship game, losing to the Albuquerque Baseball Academy by a score of 10-6.

“(LaMunyon) has been a guy you can count on to regularly put the ball in play with a hard hit or laying down a bunt,” said Wyatt. “He’s got a great attitude and understands the value of team.”

LaMunyon is coming off a solid campaign as a senior at Montezuma-Cortez High School, where he won nine games as a pitcher for the Panthers, striking out 74 batters over the course of 70 innings of work. His strikeout numbers placed him as one of the top 20 pitchers in Class 3A in the state of Colorado according to MaxPreps.

When he wasn’t on the mound, LaMunyon was one of the top run-producers for the Panthers, driving in a team-leading 39 runs while batting .378 with 15 doubles, five triples and a pair of home runs. The RBI total placed LaMunyon as the sixth best player in the state at that category among Class 3A baseball players.

The Panthers finished the season with a record of 22-6, good for second place overall in the Class 3A Intermountain League standings behind Bayfield.

LaMunyon recently signed a national letter of intent to attend Park University in Missouri. Located just outside Kansas City, Park University is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Heart of America Conference against schools across the Midwest in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri.

This season, as a starter on the Frackers, LaMunyon has found a home in the infield playing third base.

“(LaMunyon) is a real competitor,” Wyatt said. “He’s one of those guys that doesn’t get fired up but consistently gives us his best efforts. He’s really solidified his role as our starting third baseman. He’s always been willing to play anywhere and often in the outfield.”

With a record of 6-2-1 overall this season, and 3-1 in Connie Mack city league action, the Frackers are in second place in the league standings behind the 505 Panthers. Those two teams have faced each other twice this season, with each team earning a victory.

The two teams will likely face each other during the upcoming city league tournament to determine which team will be the host team in next month’s Connie Mack World Series.
