Entries for new town logo in Dolores open

Entries for new logo in the town of Dolores are open.
They’re due Dec. 31

The town of Dolores is looking for a new logo to beautify its letterheads, website and more.

Anyone in Montezuma County is welcome to enter their design.

“We know there are a lot of creative people and artists in Montezuma County,” said Dolores Mayor Chris Holkestad. “Here’s a challenge; we hope they go for it.”

Holkestad said entries are open to everyone in the county, and not just people living in Dolores, since everyone comes to and enjoys the town.

The design must “reflect the town of Dolores in some way,” according to the entry form. It cannot be an oblong shape; be sure the logo is square or circle, and any color goes.

Ideally, the design will be “simple.”

“What are we known for?” Holkestad said.

There’s the river, the mountains, the apple trees, even the historic hotel downtown, he said.

“The whole reason we’re doing this is because we didn’t feel we had a good logo that represents our town,” he said.

The logo now was never meant to be permanent; it was made in Clipart, Holkestad said.

There are three artist categories: kids age 8 and under, 8 to 18, and adult.

Of course, there will be one overall winner, and their design will become the new town logo. But there will also be a winner from the youngest division – 8 and under – whose art will be the logo for a month or so, Holkestad said.

“We want to involve kids,” he said.

There’s an entry form on the town website that must be filled out and turned in by Dec. 31.

Drop it off in person at the Dolores Town Hall, 601 Central Ave. Otherwise, email tammy@townofdolores.com with the subject line “Logo” to turn it in remotely.
