Eli Tomac moved from third place in overall points to second after top-three finishes at Thunder Valley National in Lakewood during Round 3 of the 2025 Motocross season.

Tomac moved passed Aaron Plessinger, who had been sitting in second overall after last week’s round of racing. And not only was Tomac racing in his home state, his father, John Tomac, was the grand marshal of the weekend’s event.

In the first race, front-runner Jett Lawrence passed his brother Hunter early on after Hunter claimed the hole shot. Behind the brothers, Plessinger, Tomac and Justin Cooper battled for position.

Commentators noted that Tomac was the “most aggressive rider” in the race, challenging the younger riders and jockeying for position.

Tomac and Hunter battled back and forth for third, with the two passing each other multiple times.

“They made about 10 passes it seems,” commentators said.

After Hunter passed Plessinger for second, Tomac and Plessinger remained in striking distance, with Plessinger passing Hunter again before the race’s end.

With three minutes remaining in the race, Plessinger surprised those watching by taking the lead from Jett. Despite Plessinger’s tough racing, Jett won the first moto, followed by Plessinger in second and Tomac in third.

In the second race, Coty Schock took the hole shot from the sport’s top races, right ahead of Cooper Webb and Hunter. Tomac was not in the top 10 at the start of the race.

Despite the difficult start, it wasn’t long before Tomac was in the top mix, battling with the Lawrence brothers once again.

This time, Tomac successfully passed Hunter to make his way into third behind second place Jett and first place Justin Cooper.

As he moved to second, Tomac set his eyes on Jett, putting pressure on the first place rider. As he gained more ground and got within striking distance, Tomac’s bike tipped over, causing him to lose his chance to pass.

Jett won the second Motocross race, followed by Tomac in second and Plessinger in third.

The next Motocross race will take place at High Point Raceway in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania on Sunday, June 15.
