Elder stands out as Dolores track teams compete in Aztec

Elder leads Bears with Top 5 finishes

Two years into her high school career, Dolores High School sophomore Jordan Elder has already established herself as one of the area’s finest athletes while competing in volleyball and track.

Thus, it was not altogether surprising when Elder stood out at the Aztec B&B Invitational in Aztec, April 20-21, and finished second in the long jump (16 feet, 3¼ inches), and fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.89).

Joining Elder as a Top 10 finisher in two individual events was Sierra Schwartz, who finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.48) and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles (52.34).

Other top finishers for the girls’ team included Sydney Smith, who placed seventh in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches), and 13th in the 100-meter dash (13.78).

On the boys’ side, Dolores was led by distance runner Phillip Huffman, who placed sixth in the 3200-meter run (10:53.10) and 15th in the 1600-meter run (4:59.61).

Camden Malloy led the Bears in the hurdling events with a 16th-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (19.91), and a 17th-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (48.99).

Rounding out members of the boys’ team that cracked the Top 25 in individual events was Chance Wilber, who placed 21st in the long jump (16 feet, 2½ inches).

Next up for the Dolores track teams will be the Bloomfield Invitational, which will take place in Bloomfield on April 27.
