Eight candidates running for Mancos school board

Three open seats; forum to meet candidates will be held in October
Journal file

Eight candidates will be vying for three open seats on the Mancos school board this November.

In the upcoming Mancos school board election, there will be eight candidates vying for three open seats this November.

Two of the seats are currently held by directors Pam Coppinger and Tim Hunter, whose terms expire in November. Both Coppinger and Hunter are seeking reelection.

The third was held by former Treasurer Ed Whritner, who resigned in June to take on a new position coordinating project-based learning efforts for Mancos School District Re-6.

Community members will be able to meet the candidates at an Oct. 7 forum.

Nominations to run were accepted through August.

The candidates running are Tim Hunter, Pam Coppinger, Nick Manning, Tressa Jukes, Bridgett Jabour, Katie Cahill-Volpe, Adam Priestley, and Gina Love.

Earlier this summer, the school board interviewed Jabour, Cahill-Volpe, and Manning as possible interim directors to step into Whritner’s former post. But board members decided it made more sense to leave the seat vacant until the regular election in November, with Hunter taking over as treasurer in the meantime.

The “Meet the Candidates” forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 7 in the new Mancos school cafeteria.
