A Durango Police Department operation in which officers entered a Forest Avenue home in tactical gear Sunday was prompted by a “spoofing incident,” according to an agency spokeswoman.
Amanda Garrison with the DPD said in a text to The Durango Herald that the operation at 1911 Forest Ave., which shut down the street Sunday evening, was sparked by false information provided to the department.
“The information initially received involved the report of a serious threat, which required officers to respond and conduct a search of the address out of an abundance of caution,” Garrison said. “Following a thorough investigation on scene, no evidence of criminal activity was found at the residence.”
Garrison said the occupants of the home were cooperative throughout the operation. An investigation into the origin of the threat remains active, though the residence where the operation took place is no longer considered involved.
Police did not disclose who contacted DPD or what information prompted the response, during which several armed officers entered the residence while others waited outside with guns trained on the home. Garrison said that because the investigation is ongoing, additional details could not be provided.
On its Facebook page, the department said there is no threat to the broader community.
