Durango Police are looking for a man who illegally entered an office trailer at Lake Nighthorse and left a note saying he was “lost and cold.”

The man was caught on surveillance camera about 6 p.m. Saturday entering the office trailer, said Durango Police Cmdr. Ray Shupe.

The man, however, did not steal or damage anything in the trailer. Instead, he left a note saying only that he was lost and cold.

It appears from the surveillance camera that the man, dressed in camouflage and carrying a rifle, was hunting around the area.

While Lake Nighthorse is closed to hunting, many people hunt in the Bodo State Wildlife Area, adjacent to the lake, Shupe said.

Lake Nighthorse is about 4 miles from downtown Durango, and about 2 miles from Bodo Industrial Park.

Though the man broke into the trailer, Shupe said police aren’t trying to pin any criminal charges on him.

“We just want to check on his welfare and see if he’s all right,” Shupe said.
