Durango gas station robbed at gunpoint

Authorities say suspect possibly took off on foot with undisclosed amount of cash

The Durango Police Department is searching for a suspect accused of robbing a gas station at gunpoint Thursday night.

Cmdr. Jacob Dunlop said officers were called to the Circle K gas station at 1801 Main Ave. around 9:30 p.m.

It appears a man in his late 20s or early 30s entered the store wearing a black hoodie and a face mask, took items off the shelf and then demanded money out of the cash register.

The man then displayed a firearm, but did not point it at the clerk, Dunlop said. The clerk gave the man the money out of the cash register, and the man left on foot. Durango police declined to disclose the amount of cash taken, Dunlop said.

While video surveillance did capture images of the man, it was not being released as of Friday, Dunlop said.

The suspect is described as being white, about 5-foot-7, with a thin to medium build. He was wearing a black hoodie, light-colored jeans, a dark blue face mask and a gray baseball hat with a dark blue/black brim.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detective Josh Newman at 375-4733.
