Heading into the first Colorado High School State Track Championship of her prep career, Dove Creek High School freshman Kobie Beanland had heard that competition at the state track meet was tight.

Undeterred by the type of nerves that often accompany inexperience, however, Beanland excelled in all three of her individual events as she placed second in the 800-meter run (2:27.67), third in the 300-meter hurdles (50.20), and fourth in the 400-meter run (1:04.35).

Joining Beanland as a Dove Creek team member who finished in the Top 5 in multiple events was junior thrower JD Dennison, who placed third in the discus (126 feet, 8 inches) and fourth in the shot put (41½ inches) to cap off a stellar season that ranked among the best in Colorado’s 1A Classification.

Other top finishers for Dove Creek included LaRissa Randolph, who placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (51.31) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.56), and Madilyn Hankins, who placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (53.32).

The Dove Creek girls’ team also fielded a 4x800-meter relay that finished sixth overall (11:01.14), and a 4x400-meter relay that placed eighth overall (4:36.23).

The Dove Creek girls finished ninth overall in the state’s 1A Classification with 39 points, and the Dove Creek boys placed 21st in the 1A Classification with 13 points. Shining Mountain Waldorf won the girls’ portion of the competition with 94 points, and Heritage Christian won the boys’ portion of the competition with 169 points overall.
