Dolores track teams place well in Pagosa Springs

Elder, Schwartz win; team finishes third

With the Colorado state track meet quickly approaching, the Dolores High School girls’ and boys’ track teams continue to round into form as evidenced by their performance at the Terry Alley Invitational in Pagosa Springs on May 5.

Leading the way for the girls’ team was senior hurdler Sierra Schwartz, who utilized a combination of natural speed and practiced technique to finish first in the 300-meter hurdles (51.19) and second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.87).

Also performing impressively was sophomore Jordan Elder, whose mark of 16 feet, ¾ of an inch was good enough to win the long jump. Elder also placed third in the 200-meter dash, and freshman Sydney Smith placed third in the high jump (4 feet, 5 inches) and seventh in the 100-meter dash (14.59).

Brenn Jeter rounded out members of the girls’ team who cracked the Top 10 in individual event with an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (20.28), and a ninth-place finish in the triple jump (26 feet, 7½ inches).

The Dolores girls finished third as a team with 56 points. Monte Vista placed second with 58 points, and Pagosa Springs finished first overall in the 14-team meet with 102 points.

On the boys’ side, Dolores was led by Aiden Adams, who placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.03), fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.66), and seventh in the 400-meter dash (57.89).
