Dolores track teams come through with solid results in Bloomfield

Jordan Elder wins three individual events at nine-team Bobcat Invitational

While most fans know Jordan Elder as a result of her prowess on the volleyball court, the Dolores High School junior is quickly making her name for herself in track, thanks to performances like she had at the Bobcat Invitational in Bloomfield on March 30.

Elder’s performance featured victories in all three of her individual events, including the 200-meter dash, which she won with a time of 28.17. The junior also finished first in the long jump (15 feet, 11 inches), and first in the high jump (5 feet).

Other members of the Dolores girls team who came through with impressive performances included Sydney Smith, who placed fourth in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (14.53). Sam Castillo finished fourth in the discus (87 feet, 6 inches) and fifth in the shot put (28 feet, 10½ inches).

Erin Brown placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (1:02.02) and the long jump (12 feet, 7½ inches), and Akira Edwards placed fifth in the high jump (4 feet, 4 inches) and crossed the line eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:21.31).

Other Top 10 finishers in individual events for the Lady Bears included Brenn Jeter, who placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.95), and Nayana Wilderson, who finished seventh in the 100-meter dash (14.74). Jenesis Shields placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (25.47), and Julieanna Goad crossed the line ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (28.81).

The Dolores girls finished third overall in the team standings of the nine-team meet behind team champion Kirtland and second-place Bloomfield.

Among the boys, Dolores was led by Alden Adams, who finished third in the 100-meter dash (11.67) and sixth in the 200-meter dash (24.57). Cael McHenry crossed the line third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.92) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (45.80).

Phillip Hufman led Dolores distance runners with a fourth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run (5:08.73), Ryan Nowlin placed sixth in the 100-meter dash (11.96), Camden Malloy crossed the line ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (49.00), and Levi Fuller finished 10th in the 400-meter dash (1:01.26).

The Dolores boys finished sixth out of nine teams in the team standings. Bloomfield captured the team title.

Next up for both Dolores teams will be the Abel Velasquez Invitational in Ignacio on April 6.
