At their June school board meeting, the Dolores RE-4A Board of Education received a construction update, approved an exterior finish for the new high school and commons, and approved an increase to the salary schedule.
After celebrating the groundbreaking for the new high school, the board received its monthly building update from Artaic. The exterior finish decision was between weathered steel and anodized aluminum, and the representative from Artaic provided pros and cons to the board regarding the different finishes.
The board decided to defer to the DAG committee to choose the final color for the exterior, but agreed to vote on the final finish in action items.
Artaic shared that the new projected turnover date for the high school is December 2026, and teachers and students will move to the new building over that winter break of 2026-27.
The elementary school playground is also being relocated.
Later on in their meeting, the board discussed proposed salary increases. The proposal was an increase of $1,500 for certified salary, which would increase the base pay to $41,571.50. They also discussed raising the pay of directors and administrators to $1,500 and raising classified staff 25 cents an hour.
There was also a proposed increase of the retention stipend from $1,000 to $2,000.
On June 28, the board will have a half-day training with Matt Cook to “determine if SCAP strategic priorities encompass the board’s goals” and how the strategic plan and superintendent contract can be better aligned.
The board and Superintendent Alesa Reed agreed that the strategic plan is still viable but not tied to the superintendent’s contract/evaluation, making it “clunky.”
Board president Maegan Crowley said that a “streamlined approach would be good” to help with the strategic plan’s and Reed’s goals and communication with staff.
In action items, the board approved utilizing anodized aluminum for the finished exterior of the new high school and commons.
They also approved the increase to the classified salary schedule and the $1,500 increase to the director and administrator salary schedule.
Finally, the board approved the hire of 15 new staff.
The next school board meeting will take place on Monday, July 14 at 6 p.m.
