Twelve students from Dolores High School participated in the Behind the Drywall Summer Institute, a program that was held May 27-30 at Pueblo Community College Southwest’s Mancos Campus.

The four-day program included workshops, demonstrations and field trips, providing practical experience in high-demand trades. Students engaged in activities such as wiring light switches, operating heavy equipment simulators and using power tools to build games like cornhole and yard Jenga using power tools.

Students also explored welding techniques and collaborated on plumbing challenges, designing and testing PVC piping systems for leaks.

Guest lectures and career panels featuring industry professionals also offered insights into trade careers and networking opportunities.

The institute provided food, tools and transportation to participating students. The initiative highlights a commitment to preparing students for rewarding careers in the skilled trades.
