DOLORES – Giant bubbles, dangling doughnuts and classic cars will set the scene at the Dolores Harvest Fest Saturday at Joe Rowell Park.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the park’s baseball diamond and will feature a car show that organizer Susan Lisak calls “the big showstopper.”

“We’ve got 10 categories of awards, and the awards are made from reflections in metal, so they’re really cool,” said Lisak, the executive director of the Cortez Cultural Center.

Kids can join pumpkin painting, mini golf, apple tosses and the doughnut-dangling contest – where participants try to eat a hanging doughnut without using their hands. The Dolores Fire Protection District is bringing its aerator to create giant piles of bubbles.

“I’ve got 55-gallon buckets of Dawn dish soap to make that happen,” Lisak said with a laugh.

Live music begins at 10 a.m. with singer-songwriter Dylan Koskie, a Dolores High School graduate now pursuing a music career. Performances continue with the Troupe Verde Belly Dancers at 11:30 a.m., The Flyaways at noon, Jamie & The Dreamers at 2 p.m. and Quarter Moon at 4 p.m.

Food trucks and vendors will be on site throughout the day, along with a beer garden featuring local options from Mancos Brewing Co. and Dolores River Brewery.

Lisak emphasized admission is free. “We want everyone in the community to be able to come out and enjoy it,” she said.
