Nov. 4 election is around the corner

Mail-in ballots for the Nov. 4 general election will be sent to active registered voters to the address on their voter registration the week of Oct. 12. To update your address or to register, visit www.GoVoteColorado.com or the county clerk's office, 140 W. Main St., Suite 1, Cortez.

Voters may drop off a completed ballot at the clerk's office or sign the back of the envelope, add postage and mail it.

Montezuma County has three polling centers where voters may vote in person, update records, request a replacement ballot, and register. One will be at the clerk's office, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be drops at the Dolores and Mancos libraries on Nov. 4, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Signed ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. on Nov. 4 to be counted.

Service academy deadline nears

Rep. Scott Tipton is accepting applications from students interested in attending a U.S. service academy next year. The deadline is Oct. 6.

Tipton nominated 22 students from the 3rd Congressional District to U.S. Service Academies in 2014. None were from Montezuma County.

Summit Irrigation announces stock run

The Board of Directors of the Summit Reservoir and Irrigation Co. announce a fall stock water run will occur Oct. 24-26. The water will be turned into the system on Friday morning and turned off on Sunday evening. Shareholders are urged to have their headgates, ditches and pipelines ready to accept the water. Make homecoming spirited, and

A tradition in Dolores has been the senior class decorating the school for homecoming.

Last year, seniors were given permission to tag the windows with school spirit. Administration, class sponsors, and members of the booster club helped decorate and provide a barbecue.

The students painted white paws in the street and black paws down the breezeway. They decorated windows and left their mark in the Senior Lounge.

"This was a great way to kick off Homecoming Week," said secondary Principal Brandon Thurston.
