Dolores anglers will discuss dam’s impact on fishery

For The Journal

The Dolores River Anglers’ chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet Monday, May 16 downstairs in the Main Street Brewery, Cortez. A meet-and-greet starts at 6 p.m., and the general meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.

Guest speaker is Tom Knopick, owner of Duranglers Fly Shop in Durango. Knopick will present on the history of the San Juan fishery below Navajo Dam, especially addressing how the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation regulates flow from the dam and how that impacts the world-class fishery.

After the meeting, our conservation chair, Paul Morey, will briefly instruct those who wish to assist in our summer fin sampling effort on how to properly take and record fin samples of cutthroat trout. He will also outline our fin sampling program for the summer.
