Big County Relief Program On Tap

Montezuma County's employment program was mapped out this week and work will begin as soon as approval of the plans comes from Denver, which should be by the first of next week.

The sum of $25,000 has been allotted to this county by the agency in Denver, and it is planned to work 168 men in the county, forty-eight each in Mancos, Cortez, and Dolores and twenty-four at Ackmen. These men will be employed on streets, roads and water systems to the best possible advantage.

In Dolores the work will be on streets and water system and roads adjacent to the town, particularly Dunlap Hill. Cortez plans to work the men on the streets while Mancos expects to employ her contingent on a road to the new mining district on East Mancos.

The Dolores town board met here with Commissioner Ed. Porter Wednesday evening and threshed out the details for the local community. Commissioner Porter had previously made a trip to Denver to secure the funds.

While tentative plans call for the expenditure of $25,000 in the county, it is expected that this will be increased possibly $30,000 before the winter is over. This money is to be used in place of funds for direct relief, as was the case last winter.
