Dolores 80 Years Ago

Schools in most of the basin were adjourned last Friday when the teachers of the valley trekked to Durango and attended the annual sessions of the Colorado Education Association.

Speakers on the program included Mrs. Inez Johnson Lewis, state superintendent of public instruction; C. C. Casey, president of Western State College; Dr. Chas. Lory, president of Colorado Agricultural College, and Dean G.F. Snyder, of the Ft. Lewis School. The outstanding lecturer, and the most popular on the program was Stanley Curtis of Ft. Collins, who was pastor of the local Methodist Church from 1915-1918. His two lectures were well-attended and greatly appreciated by all who heard him.

The sectional meetings were given over to English in the high school and discipline in the grades. The section meetings were exceedingly well-arranged and were laid out on the most practical lines.

The sessions continued through Saturday, the afternoon meeting on the last day being given over to parent-teacher work with various state and national P.T.A. workers in attendance.

Dolores teachers were all in attendance at the sessions, and are back ready to put into practice the valuable lessons learned at the meetings.
