Fire did extensive damage to the Chuck Rogers home near Summit Lake Wednesday afternoon with Dolores Volunteer Firemen responding to a call just before 5:00 o'clock. The large mobile type home was heavily damaged in the utility room and the fire burned under the floor of the home making it difficult to locate.
Mrs. Rogers and children were home at the time and she said they smelled smoke before discovering the fire which is believed to have started in some heat tape wiring on water lines under the house.
At the county commissioners meeting, Monday of this week, Darrel Brewington, city manager, and Don Anderson, city engineer, met with commissioners to discuss the installation of two lights needed at the airport at the end of the runway. The FFA will install the lights at no cost to the county.
Army Private Stacy G. Koenig, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Koenig, Dolores, Colo., completed a 27-week Fire Control Computer repair course at the Army Ordnance School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. He was trained in maintenance procedures for the army's new artillery digital computer.
Senators scheduled to hold a wild river hearing in Durango last Saturday failed to appear due to weather holding up air traffic out of Denver. A large number of persons appeared at Fort Lewis College for the hearing which apparently will be held at another time to be announced. Considerable interest had been evident in the possibility of the Dolores River being included in the Wild River Act and many who went to the hearing were disappointed in not getting to make their presentations.
Eddie McRae has retired from the Dolores Fire Department after 25 years of service with the organization. McRae, a real estate man and formerly with Mountain Packing Company, has gone through the offices of the Fire Department over the years.
Fashion House in Dolores plans to hold their Grand Opening next Saturday, April 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with drawings planned throughout the day and treats for the ladies and children. The store opened last fall under the new ownership of Elizabeth Boyd, Connie Boyd and Nina Cline.
Four kids enjoyed decorating Easter cookies at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom LaFrance on Sunday afternoon. They included Jeff Berry, Ernie and Carolyn Nunn and Beth Steel.
