An Old-Fashioned Christmas In Dolores This Year

An old-fashioned Christmas in Dolores will be launched Monday night, Dec. 3, in the town hall park in Downtown Dolores as the annual Lighting Ceremony, turning on of the Christmas lights, is held. The ceremony starts at 7:30 p.m. and will feature Christmas carols, organ music and a short ceremony with Mayor V.T. Boyd throwing the switch.

Various churches will be represented with their ministers and choirs at the ceremony and Mrs. Tom LaFrance, an accomplished organist, will provide music for a sing-along of Christmas music.

In addition, Dolores merchants will remain open Monday night in order that those attending the ceremony can also take care of Christmas shopping while in town.

Hot chocolate will be served by the Chamber of Commerce; free to all comers and everyone is invited to attend.

Dolores Firemen have put up the lighting in downtown Dolores with the help of Empire Electric, The Rotary Club has brought the hillside lighting up into good shape, and the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the ceremony.

At a meeting of the Chamber Wednesday the group decided to get behind the Rotary Club with their annual movie and treat for the kids to be held Dec. 22. They will hold their planned Christmas tree decorating contest on that date with grades from the Dolores schools decorating trees in the park to be judged.

Next meeting of the Chamber will be on Dec. 5.
