It has come to the attention of several concerned citizens regarding the behavior of some students (along with a few faculty members) at the Montezuma Cortez High School. The behavior involves the disrespect of our country and flag by students refusing to stand for the pledge or anthem.
I, among many others, am appalled that the administration would allow this. The millions of lives that were lost in defense of this nation and our flag deserve better.
The administration will most likely respond with, “It is their right to sit if they choose.” However, a student can and most likely will be asked to go home if he or she wears an inappropriate T-shirt. Wouldn’t that be a right as well as “freedom of speech?”
If wearing a shirt advertising drugs or alcohol has consequences, so should disrespecting the country. Come on RE-1 it’s time to stop being politically correct and start being morally right!
