Did you vote for a king?

Our forefathers fought the Revolutionary War to get rid of a king. In 2024, Trump was elected to be president. Instead, he acts like a king. I need to a ask my friends on the right: Did you knowingly choose to give Trump the powers of a king?

Our forefathers decided that no one person should have all the power in running our government. So, they created a tripartite (three parts) form of government with three separate but equal branches, namely the legislative branch, the judicial branch, and the executive branch.

The legislative branch writes the laws. The judicial branch determines what the laws mean (how they are to be interpreted and if they are constitutional). The executive branch is responsible for carrying out the laws.

Here’s the rub – only the executive branch has the means to enforce the laws. The executive branch controls the military and the police. When the executive branch (president) refuses to comply with court orders, we have a constitutional crisis.

For our system of government to work, all the players must respect their role in the process and not overstep. So, what happens when a president ignores the laws and the courts? The ultimate power lies with the people – the consent of the governed. When a majority votes to support a man who would be King, where one man rules, we lose our democratic form of government becoming a dictatorship (aka an autocracy, oligarchy or kleptocracy). Is that really what you voted for?
