A two-vehicle crash Saturday caused a rollover at Camino del Rio and Eighth Street in Durango.

Durango Police Department spokeswoman McKenzie Perdue said officers were notified at 10:34 a.m. of the crash, according to an email to The Durango Herald.

The driver of a 2008 white Jeep Patriot was traveling north in the leftmost lane on Camino del Rio when the driver of a 2010 red Lexus RX350 attempted to turn right from Eighth Street onto northbound Camino del Rio.

The Lexus driver, possibly trying to avoid traffic in the nearest right lane, turned into the far left lane, striking the Jeep and sending it into the median, where it rolled, Perdu said.

Each vehicle had only a driver and no passengers.

“Miraculously, there were no major injuries,” Perdue said.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors, she said.

The Lexus driver was cited for “improper method of turn causing an accident,” Perdue said.

Colorado law requires drivers to enter the lane closest to them when turning at an intersection.
