Mom charged with harboring offender

A Mancos mother of a 3-year-old charged with harboring an unregistered sex offender has decided not to represent herself.

Caitlin Trevino, age unknown, appeared in court last week and told the court she no longer wanted to be represented by a public defender. The judge warned that would be the worst decision she could make.

Trevino decided not to represent herself. A continuance was granted until Nov. 4 to consider a possible plea deal.

Court records reveal Trevino repeatedly told law enforcement agents in February that a convicted sex offender was not inside her Country West Motel apartment in Mancos. Authorities later found the subject, who had two warrants for his arrest, hiding in the defendant's attic.

Free on a $1,500 bond, Trevino is charged with accessory to a crime, hindering apprehension of a suspect, providing a false report to authorities and child abuse.

Gun-wielding assailant beaten

The tables were turned against a convicted felon who held a Mancos man at gunpoint in August.

The alleged victim, a 23-year-old Mancos man, escaped any known injuries after he reportedly punched the gun-wielding assailant, Daniel Holley, 28, of Cortez, in self-defense. Police said that Holley suffered a black eye and bloody nose.

Police say Holley held a .40-caliber semi-automatic handgun to the victim's jaw on Aug. 3, after a dispute with his girlfriend on Navajo Street.

Free on a $2,500 bond, Holley is charged with menacing, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and prohibited use of a weapon. The defendant's scheduled arraignment hearing last week was postponed until next month after he appeared via telephone without the court's permission.

Holley previously had been convicted of motor vehicle theft in 2008.
