Kirk Stauffer is retiring from the Montezuma County road department after 42 years of service. Stauffer “did just about every job” in the department, and has seen a lot of improvement over the years. “Back then, it was 80 percent gravel roads, but thanks to taxes from Shell and Kinder Morgan, a lot of roads got paved and chipped-sealed,” he said. “I appreciated the steady job close to home, and I’m really looking forward to retirement.”
