The Civil Air Patrol will host an informational session for youth ages 12 to 18 and their parents or guardians, offering a chance to explore opportunities in flying, leadership, and search and rescue.

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Cortez.

The session will introduce attendees to the Civil Air Patrol’s cadet program, which emphasizes learning, leadership and service through hands-on experience with aviation and other CAP-related activities.

Founded as a volunteer organization, CAP supports the U.S. Air Force with missions such as disaster relief and aerospace education. The program also fosters community involvement through public events.

While the cadet program targets youths, CAP encompasses three key elements: cadet programs, emergency services and aerospace education. Cadets engage in aerospace education and orientation flights, receive uniforms, and progress through levels and ranks during eight-week cycles held weekly.

The program promotes core values of integrity, volunteer service, excellence and respect, and encourages healthy living and physical activity.
