Cortez urges nonprofit organizations to apply for its Community Support Grant

Organizations with the most community accessible programs are highly encouraged
The city of Cortez invites the public to tour the new City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at 123 N. Roger Smith Ave. The public is also invited to attend a building dedication at 5 p.m. A skylight with stained glass is overhead a seating area outside the City Council chambers in the new Cortez City Hall.

After this year’s funding for Cortez’s organizations that preserve and enrich the community’s fitness, education, health and welfare, applications are now open for 2024’s Cortez City Council Community Support Grant.

Community organizations can apply until Oct. 13 for next year’s funding.

Nonprofits that have reached the State of Colorado’s status for this grant include those that:

  • Address a unique community need.
  • Serve the community broadly.
  • Avoid overlapping services.
  • Are established service providers.

According to a news release, the organizations that make programs and activities most accessible to Cortez’s community are sought after.

Only one application per organization may be submitted with a request up to $5,000, and they can be found at the Community Support Grant Application link.

Applications will be evaluated according to its completeness, strengths and merits. Applicants should expect responses through the mail by December. Responses will include comments, award amount and funding agreements.

Most applicants should expect payments to be mailed in early January.

The deadline for the application is at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2023. Complete applications can be emailed to dspeer@cortezco.gov or addressed at:

City of Cortez, Attn. Debbie Speer, 123 Roger Smith Ave., Cortez, CO 81321

Organizations that receive city of Cortez funds for 2023 need to submit a follow-up report with their application. If they don’t apply for 2024’s grant, then organizations need to submit by Oct. 1.
