‘Zumba 101’ will help build confidence for classes

The Cortez Recreation Center will launch Zumba classes on Monday, Oct. 20, offering a dance-based fitness option.

Classes, led by instructor Darlene Brace, will be held Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m.

To help newcomers, the center will host two “Zumba 101” intro sessions. The first was held Wednesday; the second is set for Monday, Oct. 13. Recreation coordinator Max Loving said the beginner sessions are slower to help participants build confidence before joining regular classes.

“Darlene Brace is a passionate fitness instructor and clinical social worker specializing in trauma healing. Her journey with movement began as a way to care for her own physical and emotional health, and over time it grew into a calling to help others find joy, strength, and confidence through fitness,” according to the center.

Brace will also lead “Strong Nation 30” classes Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6 p.m., before Zumba.

“Strong Nation, formerly ‘Strong by Zumba,’ is a powerful, music-driven workout that delivers a full-body challenge in just 30 minutes,” Loving said. “Every squat, lunge, punch and burpee is synced to the beat, helping you push harder and maximize results in less time. This format is perfect if you’re busy but still want a heart-pumping, strength-building class that leaves you feeling accomplished.”

All classes, including Zumba 101, are free for members and $5 for non-members. Pre-registration is encouraged. Drop-ins are welcome, but space is limited. Register online at bit.ly/cortezreccenter, in person or by calling (970) 564-4080.

Brace is a licensed clinical social worker and trauma healer with experience in Zumba, Strong Nation, Tai Chi and yoga.
