Two men arrested on warrants following disturbance call

A man who was arrested on two warrants is also accused of possessing what Cortez police believe to be fentanyl pills in his truck. Police arrested another man on three warrants in the same location.

Police were dispatched to South Oak Street around 11:47 a.m. on Nov. 23 after receiving a call about a disturbance. When officer Brady Veach and Sgt. Vance Carver arrived, they came in contact with Brian Gallegos and Marque Lopez. Gallegos told police he was there to pick up Lopez because the occupants of the home on Oak Street didn’t want her to be there.

Dispatch informed Veach and Carver then learned Gallegos had two arrest warrants in Montezuma County, as well as two restraining orders. One of the restraining orders states that Gallegos must be 100 yards away from Lopez.

After arresting Gallegos, police also arrested Shawn Abein on three warrants. Abein had been in the home where Gallegos was allegedly picking up Lopez.

A pipe and other drug paraphernalia were allegedly discovered in Gallegos’s truck after he and Abein were taken to the Montezuma County Jail. Four blue pills with the letter “M” on one side and the number “30” on the other, believed to be fentanyl, were found, according to police.

When asked about the pills, Lopez told police that the drugs belonged to a woman who was “unrelated to the call.”
