Thursday, Sept. 18

1:37 p.m. A Cortez Police Officer responded to a local grocery store in the 1500 block of Main Street for a report of shoplifting. The detained man had two packages of beef tenderloin that he had stuffed in a backpack. When asked why he took the meat, the man said, “I just haven’t had steak in awhile and wanted some.” The man was issued a summons for shoplifting.

Friday, Sept. 19

4:01 a.m. Police were asked to respond to a possible stabbing in the 300 block of North Broadway. When officers arrived, they found a woman with a 3/4-inch wound on her hand. The woman told officers that it didn’t matter and that she believed she got the wound after fighting over a girl at a nearby bar.

Saturday, Sept. 20

11:07 p.m. An officer responded to a report of two females lying on the ground. When the officer arrived, one of them was dragging the other down the street by her arm. When asked what she was doing, the female said she was trying to get her friend home. Both women smelled strongly of alcohol. After quit the ordeal, and having the women checked out y medical professionals, they were issued summons for underage consumption.

Thursday, Sept. 25

3:31 a.m. An officer pulled over a red minivan near the 200 block of South Linden Street after observing a taillight wasn’t functioning properly. As the officer pulled the vehicle over, he noticed there was a lot of moving around in the vehicle, so he requested backup. The vehicle smelled of marijuana, and the passenger admitted to drinking alcohol, which was not allowed because of court orders. So the passenger was arrested without incident. Meanwhile, an officer arrived with his K9 partner, who alerted to a torn bag believed to be methamphetamine. The driver of the vehicle said the bag did not belong to her. But the driver was eventually arrested when it was discovered she was in the possession of a pipe commonly used for smoking meth.

Friday, Sept. 26

10:16 p.m. Officers arrived to a bar in the 40 block of E. Main Street for a possible fight. When they arrived, a man told officers that his fiance came into the bar and started yelling at him and slapped him. He thought she might be mad because he was having a birthday party for her. During her party, she passed out, and everyone left and went to the bar. When she woke up and discovered that everyone had left her alone, she saw red. There wasn’t sufficient evidence to arrest either the birthday girl or the man, both were extremely intoxicated.

Saturday, Sept. 27

4:28 a.m. Officers arrived at a home for a possible domestic disturbance and a man was arrested after an alleged altercation with a woman. He was found outside the woman’s house sleeping in his pickup after reportedly threatening to break her window.

Monday, Sept. 29

11:05 p.m. After an officer observed a vehicle pull out of a parking lot in the 500 block of East Main Street and fail to turn on his headlights, the man driving was pulled over. The man stated he did not have a driver’s license or proof of insurance. In addition, the smelled strongly of marijuana. Inside the vehicle, several marijuana pipes were found, in addition to containers and bags containing marijuana. The man was transported to the hospital for a blood draw and arrested for driving without a license or insurance.
