The Independent Bankers of Colorado, which represents 500 community bank locations statewide, has announced that Byron E. Maynes has been elected as its next president. Maynes has served as president of First National Bank, Cortez since 2007 and will continue to fulfill that role during his one-year term as IBC president. He has served on the IBC board of directors since 2009.

At IBC’s 42nd annual business meeting in Vail recently, Byron stated that community banks, he continued, are very important to the viability of rural and small communities, providing much of the nation’s small business and agricultural loans.

“I am very excited with this opportunity to serve as president of the Independent Bankers of Colorado,” Maynes said. “I know how important the organization has been to my bank and my community and I look forward to working with other community bankers throughout the State who are also working hard for their banks and their communities.”

Maynes, a graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School, obtained bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Colorado. He has been a banker in Cortez for the past 32 years.
