King Soopers said Monday that it has recalled deli broccoli salads and coleslaw that are sold in King Soopers and City Market stores in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming.

The products might be contaminated with listeria.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to a news release from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the FDA said in a news release.

The King Soopers and City Market products are:

Deli Broccoli Almond Salad (UPC 289861-2XXXX)Asian Pasta Salad (UPC 279867-4XXXX)Deli Colorado Coleslaw (UPC 247094-6XXXX)Deli California Broccoli Salad (UPC 237193-5XXXX) The affected vegetables were likely purchased between Oct. 1 and Oct. 21, the FDA said.

The deli broccoli salads and coleslaw are sold from the service case in the deli department at King Soopers and City Market.

The stores have removed the items and initiated a recall system to alert customers.

King Soopers and City Market were notified on Oct. 20 by manufacturer Journey Cuisine that the recalled product contains an ingredient from Mann Packing, of Salinas, California, that may be contaminated.

The company has ceased production pending an investigation.
