Community Foundation awards $50,000 in grants for local youth organizations

Montezuma County organizations are among the recipients

The Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado has awarded $50,000 in grants to nonprofits serving youths in Southwest Colorado as part of its 25th anniversary celebration. Multiple Montezuma County organizations have been named as recipients.

The first Montezuma County recipient, the School Community Youth Collaborative, serves youths in Cortez and Mancos by helping reduce youth substance abuse and violence through mentorship.

The other recipients are the workforce development program of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and the Dolores Rotary Club, which the foundation reported sends students to a leadership conference in Colorado Springs to teach them skills like public speaking.

Other organizations in Southwest Colorado that received funding include San Juan Association/Audubon Rockies, Four Corners Rainbow Youth Center (Durango), Boys and Girls Club of Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Stillwater Music (Bayfield), Students Tackling Unhealthy Decisions (Dove Creek), Karma Tutors Impact Fund (Rico), Silverton Youth Center and Fort Lewis College Athletics.
