Friday, Feb. 20

Hayden Kocourek fundraiser and bake sale at the Mancos High School Gym at 5 p.m. Hayden is a 4-H member in the rabbit project. He has total kidney failure and is on dialysis each night at a cost of $900 a day. His medications are $300 a day. His family could use our community's love and support. The annual Lewis-Arriola Community Center Chili and Cornbread Supper and Pie Auction begins at 6 p.m. at the community center, 21176 Road S. This is the primary fundraiser for the center, to offset expenses. Door prizes of groceries and gasoline. Tickets available at the door - $5 each or five for $20 - or can be purchased from Chan (560-4782), Carol (882-7816) or Don (882-1273).

Saturday, Feb. 21

League of Women Voters hosts legislators. Sen. Ellen Roberts and Rep. Don Coram provide the program for the League of Women Voters of Montezuma County at 1:30 p.m. at the Dolores Public Library. South West Colorado Concerts presents an evening of jazz, 7 p.m. in the M-CHS auditorium. Local flugal horn player Bob Newnam and local musicians celebrate this American form of music. Thursday, Feb. 26

A presentation about the book "The Wild Wisdom of Weeds" will be given at 6:30 p.m. at Mancos Public Library, 211 W. First St., Mancos. Local author Katrina Blair and Mancos artist Jaime Becktel will present a slideshow of the 13 essential plants for human survival featured in the new book. Blair will share edible treats made from the recipes included in the book. Becktel will talk about rendering the drawings for the book.

Friday, Feb. 27

A public screening of the documentary "To Light a Candle" will be held at the Cortez Journal meeting room at 5:30 p.m. with soup and sandwiches. The documentary will be shown at 6:30 p.m. followed by a discussion. Learn about the persecution of Baha'is in Iran that led to the development of an underground university. Free. The Mancos Distillery hosts the hard-driving swing and variety of WE-4, now with the percussion of Mike Bordeman. Music begins at 7 p.m., with $3 cover.
