Four seats are open for local students on three boards

The city of Cortez is recruiting high school students to fill four youth representative positions on three advisory boards, offering volunteer experience that can strengthen college and scholarship applications.

Openings include one seat on the Library Advisory Board, two on the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Advisory Board, and one on the Public Arts Advisory Committee.

Library Advisory Board members advise the city librarian and City Council on operations and policies, advocate for the library and assist with fundraising, according to the city’s website. The board meets at 5 p.m. the second Thursday of each month and has two adult vacancies.

The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Advisory Board seeks two student representatives. Members review programs, facilities, fees and master plans; discuss public comments; promote parks and recreation; and make recommendations to the City Council on budgets and policies. Meetings are at 3 p.m. the first Thursday of each month.

The Public Arts Advisory Committee also has two adult vacancies. It advises the City Council and staff on public art planning, programming, acquisition, installation, maintenance, restoration and promotion. Meetings are at 5 p.m. the first Monday of each month.

All positions are two-year appointments. Students must complete the Boards and Commissions application, available at www.cortezco.gov/DocumentCenter/View/5360.
