Chavolito’s comes to Dolores’ main street

Restaurant offers authentic Mexican fare
Chavolito’s has opened in Dolores with the staff of Chavolo Ortiz, Arturo Huezo, Edwardo Neri and Moises Rodriguez.

A popular Mexican restaurant in Mancos has opened a new location in Dolores.

Chavolito’s is owned and operated by Chavolo Ortiz, a veteran chef of authentic Mexican dishes from the Guadalajara region.

“Many of the recipes are from my mother who is a great cook,” Ortiz said. “I grew up with great Mexican food, and want to share that experience with the Dolores community.”

He purchased the old Naked Moose restaurant and bar this year, then transformed it into a vibrant slice of Mexican culture.

“We did a lot of remodeling, and traveled to Guadalajara for the handmade Mexican tables and chairs, and decorative artwork,” he said.

The friendly staff at Chavolito’s serves up plates of enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, carne and pollo asada at reasonable prices.

“We also offer quality seafood and shrimp dishes,” Ortiz says. “Our margaritas have a good reputation too.”

There’s a bar and outdoor dining patio with views of Joe Rowell Park.

A grand opening is scheduled for June 1, with a lot of specials on food and drinks.

“I couldn’t resist this nice town with a river,” Ortiz says. “The people here need a quality Mexican restaurant, and I’m happy to offer that.”

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Chavolito’s is located at 104 S. 2nd Street in Dolores. Their phone number is (970) 946-3901. Catering is also available.
