The Colorado Department of Transportation and Kirkland Construction will start work on Wednesday, Sept. 6 along Colorado Highway 145, north of Telluride in the community of Sawpit. The work will take place seven miles north of the Society Turn roundabout in Telluride, from mile maker 79.9 to 80.1.

The project is expected to last until the end of October.

The project will include installation of a new concrete box culvert under the highway. Crews will also implement erosion control measures on the roadway embankment, with new rip-rap stone work. The project will wrap up with seeding and mulching.

Motorists may encounter periodic brief delays on Colorado 145 for the first two weeks of the project, Sept. 6-18. After Sept. 18, vehicles will be restricted to single lane, alternating flow of traffic controlled by a portable light signal. Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists should expect traffic speed will be reduced to 35 mph throughout the work zone. Traffic fines in the construction zone will be doubled.

Work will be suspended during the weekend of the popular Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, set for Sept. 15-17.
