The Mancos Student Council invites students and the public to attend a Mancos Board of Trustee candidate forum tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

There will be a municipal election on April 5 for three open town board seats. Terms are up for Fred Brooks, Betsy Harrison and Brent McWhirter.

Four candidates are competing for three open seats.

Brooks and Harrison are running for reelection. New candidates are Nicholas Manning and Richard Tokar.

The format allows the candidates introduce themselves and give a short speech about their plans serving as board trustee, said organizer and student council member Haylie Higgins.

Then it will open up to questions from the audience.

The student council decided to host the forum in an effort to encourage input from younger people, Higgins said.

“We think it is important for students to get more involved because we are the future of the town,” she said.
