Daniel joins national society of scholars

Tyler C. Daniel, of Cortez, has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

“Membership gives students access to a number of amazing benefits including career and networking resources, scholarships, travel and service projects both on campus and in the community,” said Stephen E. Loflin, NSCS founder and CEO.

Daniel was the Montezuma-Cortez High School 2014 class valedictorian and attends Colorado State University, pursuing degrees in biomedical engineering and chemical and biological engineering.

NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership is by invitation, based on grade point average and class standing. NSCS has over a million lifetime members.

$1,000 M-CHS alumni scholarship available

A $1,000 Montezuma-Cortez High School Alumni Scholarship is available for a graduating senior from M-CHS attending a post-secondary institution.

Consideration is given to scholastic standing, desire to obtain further education, school activities, community involvement, work experience and a minimum grade-point average of 3.2.

Application deadline is Friday, May 1.

The Alumni Scholarship is the creation of 2003 M-CHS graduate Brian Cone. Attending college was an expensive endeavor for him, and he discovered the financial help and encouragement from scholarship monies were invaluable.

Previous award recipients include Amanda Chapel, Jaycee Syra, and Tyler Daniel.
