M-CHS Band Boosters selling raffle tickets

The Montezuma-Cortez High School Band Boosters are selling raffle tickets to help earn money to help the band program. The raffle takes place at the All-District Band Festival on Monday, May 4, at MCHS at 7 p.m.

Grand prize is a home theater system including a 55-inch HDTV, surround-sound stereo, and BlueRay/DVD player valued at $1,800.

Second prize is a Specialized mountain bike from Kokopelli Bike & Board valued at over $800.

Tickets are one for $10 or three for $30.

First-aid presentation set for April 7

Everyone is welcome to a presentation sponsored by The Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen present “Back Country First Aid Kit” on Tuesday, April 7, at the Elks Lodge, 2100 N. Dolores Road, in Cortez.

Arrive for dinner at 6:15 p.m. or buy your own meal. The presentation starts at 7 p.m.

Karen Dickson, emergency preparedness and response coordinator at the Montezuma County Public Health Department, will give tips on what to carry in first aid kits in the back country.

Free seminar set on advance health care

Hospice of Montezuma plans a free seminar on advance health-care decision-making on Saturday, April 18, at the Cortez Conference Center from 8 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be provided.

The seminar is part of National Healthcare Decisions Day, which is recognized on April 16, and is supported in part by the Holiday Inn and investment advisers Edward Jones and Saybrus Partners.

Professionals will discuss topics including how to talk about your wishes with your family, friends and health-care providers; financial and long-term planning; and how to execute written advance directives in accordance with Colorado laws.

Mercy to offer class on prediabetes

Anyone identified as having prediabetes is invited to attend a free class by Sheena Carswell, CNS, BC-ADM, and Marge Morris, RD, CDE. Attendees will learn how to manage prediabetes and help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

The class will be held Friday, April 3, 9–11 a.m. in suite 140 of the medical office building at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Mesa Elementary plans benefit

Mesa Elementary School will host a 1.5-mile run/walk to benefit the Bridge in Cortez On Saturday, April 11, beginning at 9 a.m.

The run will begin at Mesa Elementary, continue on the Hawkins Preserve trail and end back at Mesa School.

Prizes include a $50 prize from Big 5 for the top male and female runner, and a race T-shirt for the top male and female runner from each division.

Participants need to bring a $5 donation or any of the following items to be donated to the Bridge: unscented bleach, liquid laundry soap, paper towels, toilet paper, coffee, and sugar. Booths promoting healthy living and nutrition will be on site.
