Theft reported at school

A deputy for The Montezuma County Sheriff's Office who was conducting a walk-through of the Dolores Elementary school on Monday, Aug. 18, was approached by an employee wanting to discuss a theft from the school.

She said multiple fly fishing rods, valued at $4,000 had been stolen and that the theft was noticed about 7 a.m. by the person tracking the gym equipment.

The deputy was unable to investigate the scene because it had been contaminated by the school staff attempting to locate the missing gear, according to the sheriff's office.
