Four felony assault charges filed in April 9 incident

A Bloomfield woman is accused of firing a gun at workers after she and her boyfriend drove to an Aztec job site where he had been told not to report for work, according to court records.

Jasmil Guadalupe Arroyo, 35, is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony, and one count of negligent use of a deadly weapon, a petty misdemeanor.

Her boyfriend, Aldren Hot, 38, of Flora Vista, is charged with aggravated DWI, driving without a license and open container, all misdemeanors. He also was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.

Arroyo’s charges stem from an incident reported at 8:41 a.m. April 9 on County Road 3403 in Aztec, where San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting.

Five people were working at the location, cleaning up a job site. Hot had also been hired to work there but had been told not to show up that day, according to the statement of probable cause.

Hot reportedly drove Arroyo’s Chevrolet Tahoe to the site despite having a suspended license, according to court records.

Once there, Arroyo allegedly exited the vehicle, pulled out a firearm and fired shots in the direction of the workers, according to the statement of probable cause.

Investigators said she fired at least one shot toward the workers and one shot into the air. Two shell casings were found at the scene. No one was injured, and one individual declined to press charges, court records state.

A neighbor provided sheriff’s investigators with video of the alleged assault. Det. Avery Washburn said in the probable cause statement that Arroyo, with her right arm, “pointed straight out toward the victims,” who all “quickly ran and scattered.”

When questioned, Arroyo allegedly told investigators she fired a gun into the ground and said she had fired at least two shots before the incident, according to the statement of probable cause.

Both Arroyo and Hot were booked into the San Juan County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. April 23 in Aztec Magistrate Court.
