Bloomfield duo headed to National High School Finals Rodeo

GALLUP – The team of Dylan Rector and Laramie Hernandez are headed to the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) competition later this month after winning the team roping championship last weekend during a qualifying event in Gallup.

The team scored a win over nine other teams from across the Southwest, earning a spot in the Nationals, which get underway at the Camplex Event Center starting July 16 in Gillette, Wyoming.

The duo hail from Bloomfield and have competed frequently during the spring and fall rodeo seasons for the New Mexico High School Rodeo. Rector and Martinez earned the title of best in the state after beating more than 30 other duos in the final state results.

The National High School Finals Rodeo is an annual event that is celebrating its 75th anniversary. Created in 1949, the event has been held in a variety of locations across America. The event typically attracts more than 1,500 students on a regular basis and has become known as the “World’s Largest Rodeo.”
