BLM to host transportation planning meeting in Mancos

Access to Weber, Menefee areas is on agenda
The 335-acre Cox Ranch south of Mancos was recently put under a conservation easement with the Montezuma Land Conservancy. The land is a critical habitat corridor between Menefee and Weber Mountains, which are both BLM wilderness study areas.

The Bureau of Land Management Tres Rios Field Office is hosting a Transportation and Access Plan open house June 12 to share information about inventoried routes near Mancos, Colorado, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mancos Public Library, 211 E. First St.

For more than a year, the Tres Rios Field Office has worked with its partners and the public to learn about the inventoried route system in Archuleta, La Plata and Montezuma counties. This input helps the BLM update route inventories and to identify a sustainable trail network when the travel management process begins later this year.

“We’re specifically holding this open house in response to community questions about access to and within the Weber and Menefee Mountain Wilderness Study Areas as well as the Aqueduct Special Recreation Management Area,” said Connie Clementson, BLM Tres Rios field manager

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate throughout the nation. The agency’s mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. Diverse activities authorized on these lands generated $75 billion in sales of goods and services throughout the American economy in fiscal year 2016 - more than any other agency in the Department of the Interior. These activities supported more than 372,000 jobs.
