Artisans of Mancos welcome three new members

Mancos co-op celebrates local artisans

The Artisans of Mancos will welcome three new members at an event on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The organization holds a welcoming reception to introduce new members of the co-op to the community. Landscape painter Linda Bonds works in pastels, and Western landscape painter Aileen McAlistar works in oil and acrylic. Rustic furniture maker Peter Eppart works mainly with found aspen to avoid hurting living things.

Eppart is an original founding member of the group from 2003, but moved to Minnesota and back to Mancos and is being re-inducted.

The artist co-op does not make a profit from artist sales, but members pay dues that help cover rent of the gallery.

In addition, the roughly 20 artisans take turns running the front desk according to Jan Wright.

Each artisan has a space in the gallery. Those spaces are rotated every six months.

“One thing that is so wonderful about it being a cooperative is that we have such a variety of fine arts and fine crafts,” Wright said. “It provides such variety because we take turns working the desk, and we just pay the rent. There’s a real advantage to being cooperative.”

The gallery is at 101 Grand Ave. in Mancos.
