Search for man began at a residence north of Cortez

An armed man was arrested Saturday afternoon after a pursuit that led officers from a residence north of Cortez into Dolores County.

According to Montezuma County Sheriff Steven Nowlin, the man, identified as Kyle Buchanan, 30, left a residence after a dispatch call reported that he had threatened to harm himself at a home in the 24000 block of County Road N, about 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Buchanan left the residence in a black Dodge truck, driving west on County Road N, then north on U.S. Highway 491, Nowlin said.

Three Montezuma County deputies took part in the search for Buchanan, Nowlin said.

The Colorado State Patrol assisted in the search and pursuit after receiving a call about 4 p.m.

Buchanan was arrested by the Dolores County Sheriff’s Office while in possession of a handgun, Nowlin said, and likely will face a charge of being in possession while intoxicated in Montezuma County.

Additional charges are likely in Dolores County.

Neither Dolores County Sheriff Don Wilson nor Undersheriff Matt Purkat was immediately available for comment Saturday night.
