In a span of just two days, active cases of the coronavirus in Montezuma County dropped by a figure of 107.
The numbers from the Montezuma County Public Health Department from Feb. 17 to Feb. 19 indicate people recovering from the virus, and the county is not seeing a major uptick in cases.
Active cases dropped from 280 to 173. There were, however, eight additional confirmed positive cases during that time.
There have been 1,678 confirmed positives in Montezuma County since the beginning of the pandemic. While 1,485 people have recovered, there have been 13 deaths from the virus countywide. An additional seven died while COVID-positive, but the virus was not determined to be the cause of death.
The county moved to the less restrictive Level Yellow earlier this month on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s revamped COVID-19 Dial. The designation allowed for more leniency at restaurants, gyms, offices, events and more.
The effort to vaccinate as many people as possible has made considerable headway in Montezuma County.
As of this week, 5,559 people have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. An additional 1,464 have received their second shot, completing the vaccination.
The state entered Phase 1B.2 of its intricate distribution plan this month. Phase 1B.2 allows Coloradans age 65 and older, educators, child care workers and a small number of state government officials to receive the vaccine.
